PhotoPaint 10 Creating Brush Textures Creating custom textures for brushes in PhotoPaint 10 is quick and easy. I first started by creating a blank image 318x238 at 96 dpi. Why did I do that? I checked in the Custom Brush Texture folder and checked the properties of some of the default textures. They are grey scale images so I followed that pattern. You can paint a texture using whatever brushes you'd like and you can apply filters. Convert the image to grayscale and save it to the brush textures folder or anywhere you want. Just remember where you saved it to so you can find it when you need it.
Go to Window>Dockers>Brush Settings to open the Brush Settings docker.
Open the Brush Texture palette and click on the folder icon. Browse to the file you just created and select it.
Set a strength for the brush and edge texture and for the bleed and sustain. Bleed and Sustain control how color is applied to the brush stroke. By setting a sustain value, traces of color will flow through the stroke. Below are some examples of strokes after playing with other settings in the Brush Settings docker using the texture created in step 1.
The below image is different strokes applied using the texture created in step 1.
I personally get addicted playing with the brush settings docker and brush strokes. It is great fun and your only limit to brush strokes is your imagination in applying the settings and creating custom textures. You can learn more about the using the Brush Settings Docker in the PhotoPaint 10 Custom Brush tutorial. |
