Creating Custom Gradients

Creating and saving your own custom gradients in Paint Shop Pro 9 is quick and easy.

In the materials palette choose gradient by clicking on the first box on the color swatches.

Then click on either gradient swatch to open the Material Properties dialog.

Click the Edit button to open the Gradient Editor.

Click the New button and name your new gradient. Click OK.

You should now see your new gradient name in the types box. Below that you will see a Gradient area and a Transparency area. For this tutorial we'll stick with the Gradient area. We'll be working with the two black sliders.

Click on a slider and then on a Fore or Back color. If you don't like those colors, click the color swatch in the custom box. Your slider automatically takes on the color of your choice. You can add sliders by clicking just below the gradient swatch, select a color for them and watch your gradient change.

Once you've finished creating your gradient click ok and the Material Properties dialog will show your new gradient. Click Close and you're ready to use your new gradient.

Below is a simple rectangle object filled with the new gradient.

This is great option so you don't have to keep creating the same gradients over and over and it opens up lots more options for creating unique graphic images.

Have fun!
