Sky and Water

Start by opening  a document 400x400 and fill it with the lightest blue on the default color palette. Using the spray can set to a large size and choosing the lightest pink from the default color palette, spray some spots on the upper portion of the canvas.

Next choose the lightest yellow color from the default palette and spray some spots over the pink with the spray can tool.

Using the smudge brush, smudge the colors around to smooth. Add some gray and then white over it with the spray can, then smudge some more to produce highlights.

We now have a base for the sky.

Using the rectangle shapes tool with the default second darkest blue color draw a rectangle on the canvas as shown below.

Using the selection tool, click anywhere in the blue rectangle to select it. Go to the Effects menu and then Geometric effects. You will see towards the bottom the Wave effect. Choose that and set the sliders until your preview looks similar to below.

Go to the Selections menu and choose Promote to layer.

Go to the Image menu and choose Rotate. Rotate the image to the left 90 degrees.

Use the smudge brush to software the lines into nice looking waves.

Using these techniques you can create more finely detailed skies and oceans.
