Selection Masking Selection masking is a very fun effect in Paint Shop Pro. At first it seems a little backwards but it's very easy to get the hang of and you can create some stunning effects with it. Choose an image that you want to use. I chose my ghetto boy below.
Create a new layer. I named mine Mask Layer.
Fill that layer with either a solid color or a pattern fill. You can use the Flood Fill tool to fill the layer with a pattern by choosing the Flood Fill tool, selecting a pattern fill style and choosing the pattern you would like to use. If you have a pattern of your own you want to use; open it in Paint Shop Pro and choose that pattern from the pattern style selection palette.
Go to Mask>New>Show All Your Layer Palette will now reflect that the layer we are working on is a mask layer by showing the Mask next to the eyeglasses..
We are using a selection for this masking tutorial so choose the Selection Tool. I've chosen Ellipse for the shape of the selection I want to make in the Tool Options palette. To create a nice blend between the mask layer and the image layer, set a high feather amount. I've set mine at 28.
Go to Mask>Edit
Create your selection on the Mask Layer.
Once you have the selection, hit the Delete key.
The image above now shows the image layer through the mask layer above it. Merge your layers and save the image. |
