Painting an Eyeball
In this tutorial we'll learn how to create a more realistic iris with Paint Shop Pro. We'll go ahead and paint the whole eyeball but the focus is the iris. If you are going to use this for a 3D Sphere you might want to grab UV Mapper Classic which is free. You can find a tutorial for mapping an eyeball with UVMapper at 3DToday. I've used a map created in UV Mapper for this tutorial but you can start at Step 2 by just creating an ellipse for the iris. Below is my texture from the sphere I mapped in UVMapper.
Choose the Geometric Selection tool
Create a new layer an d fill it with a color using the Flood Fill tool
Go to Effects>Noise>Add and apply the settings shown below. Go to Colors>Grey Scale. Go to Colors>Increase Color Depth>16 Million Colors
Go to Effects>Reflection Effects>Kaleidoscope.
Apply the settings shown below.
Go to Colors>Colorize and apply the settings shown below.
Select the Retouch tool and alternating between Lightness Up and Lightness down apply as shown below.
Create a new layer.
Go to Selections>Select None.
Use the Geometric Selection tool
Use the Flood Fill Tool Use the Retouch tool again to add highlights using the Lightness up brush.
If you are using a texture map created with UVMapper continue on. If you are just using a blank canvas with an elliptical selection, you are done here. You now have a nice iris and pupil. Turn off the visibility of the new layers.
Make sure the Background layer is selected. Use the Shapes tool
Use the Magic Wand tool Go to Selections>Invert. Then hit the Delete key.
You can use whatever you like to make the texture for the whites of the eyes. I have used the Eye Candy Fur filter as shown below.
Hmmm, looks a little hairy. Don't worry though, we'll fix that later. Go to Colors>Colorize and apply the settings shown below.
Go to Selections>Promote to Layer
Your Layer Palette should now look similar to below.
In the Layer Palette adjust the transparency of the Promoted Layer as shown below.
Go to Layers>Merge>Merge All (Flatten)
Get into your favorite 3D application and apply your new texture to the sphere object you created. Then place it in a face!
