CodeCharge Studio 2 The Grid is a visual representation of the data in your database. The Grid Builder makes displaying your data quick and easy.
There are only five steps involved in getting the data from your database into your web page. The first thing you need to do is create a database connection.
When you click on Create, the Database Connections dialog opens and allows you to add your connection.
As we've done previously, choose a provider.
Provide information about the database connection such as server name, user and passwords and the database you'll be using.
Test the connection.
You also have advanced options such as connection timeout and access permissions.
You can edit any or all of the initialization properties.
Test the connection and move on to step 2.
Here you'll choose the fields that you want represented in the Grid.
If you want search capabilities, place a check mark in the Create Search/Filter box. Then choose which fields you want to be able to search. If you don't want search capabilities, uncheck the Create Search/Filter box.
Here you'll decide whether you want to be able to sort the fields in the grid and whether you will have and what type of navigation to add. Pagination made easy. I love it!
Choose a theme or leave it as none.
Preview your work to be sure it's as you like it. You can always hit the back button to go back and change what you don't like or you can wait until you're finished building the grid and change it manually. With CodeCharge Studio you have many options and lots of leeway when creating your applications.
Below is a screenshot of the search and grid we just built.
Below are the Project Explorer in Pages and Files views.
You can check your file properties in it's own Property sheet on the right side of the IDE.
Publish the project to your local server to be sure it looks, acts and works as you want it to.
If there is no path, you will be prompted to create one when you click the preview button in the main IDE.
Below is the preview as it would be seen from the web.
The Code view shows all the scripting involved in creating the project.
Sometimes you need to go to a certain place in the code and with the Code drop down it becomes an easy task to go right where you need to be.
You can also navigate right to the different elements on a page from the Objects drop down.
The HTML view shows syntax highlighting and is very clean code.
There is a messages window that shows you what is happening when you publish a page. It shows progress of the Publish and error messages.
You can also add custom code to objects by selecting the Events tab in the Property sheet window.
The custom code can be something that CodeCharge has pre-designed.
Or, the custom code can be a CodeCharge pre-defined action.
Or, you can hand code what you want.
When you add custom code the code window opens and tells you to "Write your own code here." so you know exactly where things can and should be added.
All of this takes just a few minutes and makes displaying records in a database quick and easy. It's a very easy way to create complex code easily. Next we'll move on to the Record Builder.
