FTP Voyager I try never to knock any software because each of us are different and each piece of software is different, but, I have said good-bye to WS_FTP Pro forever. FTP Voyager makes uploading, downloading, and setting file permissions so simple a child could do it. If you have ever used an FTP client you won't even need to look at the help files. Everything is right there for you and the software runs in a predictable way so that there is no question about what needs to be done next or what is going to happen next.
You get a view of your hard drive files as well as the server side files and it's only a matter of dragging files from one place to the other for uploading and download. And even those things are not hard to figured out with the server side files on top and the hard drive files on the bottom. Move things up and you're uploading. Move things down and you're downloading. It can't get much simpler than that.
I'm a person who likes to play with writing cgi scripts. Because of that it was very important for me to be able to set file permissions quickly and easily. One of the first things I checked out were the capabilities of FTP Voyager in that area. FTP Voyager is so much easier than anything I've ever used. Normally you have to figure out what the rw-rw-r means in terms of numerical permissions. If you look at the bottom right of the File Properties dialog you will see that you can enter the numerical equivalents without ever having to worry about figuring those permission settings out again. Because I play with cgi enough, this alone would have sold me on the product, but there are so many other things that are important in FTP Voyager it's hard to say which one is the most important. They all are, and the fact that it is so easy to use.
The menu commands are all easy to understand.
FTP Voyager lets you schedule uploads, downloads, file deletions, and lets you queue items into batches.
FTP Voyager is exciting stuff for those of us who maintain web sites. If you don't have a copy of FTP Voyager then you need to run over and get a copy to try out. Features:
