CSE HTML Validator 4.04

CSE HTML Validator 4.04 is an HTML document tag validator, an HTML editor, and more. CSE HTML Validator does not claim to find all syntax errors you may have, but it will get most of them saving you loads of time in checking, reading through your code and correcting your documents.

CSE HTML Validator was designed for a college course for the University of Texas at Arlington. Since it's beginning it has come a long, long, way. I have used CSE HTML Validator for about 2 years now.

Have trouble with Netscape and Internet Explorer and their related "unique" tags. CSE HTML Validator will let you know when you're using those tags.

You can validate a batch of documents instead of one at a time saving even more time and trouble.

The Integrated Editor allows you to edit your HTML documents directly in CSE HTML Validator and has an options dialog so you can customize it to your liking.

The Engine Options is where you set up how the validator checks your documents.

The HTML Configuration Editor allows you to add new tags and re-configure old ones.

There are many powerful tools included in CSE HTML Validator but one of the most exciting to me is the Template Tool. With this tool you can create a template. Use it to create your pages, and then any time you need to change something on all of your pages, for instance headers and/or footers, you simply change the template and run the pages with the Template Tool. All the pages will automatically be updated with the new changes.

CSE HTML Validator also includes a very good and complete help file.

It's always good to validate your documents not only to be sure they are correct, but because sometimes one little thing missing, say a closing table tag can render your document useless to Netscape users. Even though you can see it in Internet Explorer, your Netscape viewers will be greeted by a blank page. CSE HTML Validator is great for finding these kinds of errors and letting you know exactly where on the page those errors are. It's also great for finding those tags that are browser specific and letting you know about it, so you can fix them so they are viewable by all.

If you're just learning HTML, CSE HTML Validator is a great learning tool by letting you know about deprecated tags, missing quotes, and more. The image below represents a validation of this page. Although we know that the font, center, and U, are deprecated tags, because viewers visit with older browsers we must continue to use these tags as their browsers don't support style sheets. However, this is a great learning tool for learning correct HTML writing. As you can see I got lazy with my javascript and did not write the first line correctly. I wrote "script language="javascript" when it should read "script language="text/javascript".

All in all, this a great tool for HTML editing, validating, and updating. Run on over to the CSE HTML Validator site and get a trial version to try out.

In conclusion, validating your HTML documents is not only to help you have correctly written documents, but also to help you be sure that your documents are viewable by all in the way you intended. CSE HTML Validator is the tool to have to accomplish this task.
