Red Hat Linux 6
Red Hat Linux 6 is a visual guide to getting Linux installed on your machine. It takes you through preparation and installation and the book comes with a CD with a custom version of Red Hat Linux 6. The instructions for installation are complete, accurate, and covers installing it with or without Windows. It includes tips and tricks to help ease the installation. Almost every page of instructions includes a tips section and if there are particular issues that have caused trouble in the past it is all documented in the book letting you know ahead of time how to correct or plan for potential problems. It explains how to set up Windows to boot to the DOS prompt. There are numerous screen shots included throughout the book to give you a visual look at what is, has, or should be happening during the installation and setup. It takes you through getting your system set up and installing Netscape along with setting up your modem and email. Once you're all set up, Red Hat Linux 6 by Harold Davis shows you how to use the operating system and all the applications that come included on the CD. Those applications are Gnome applications and include a calendar, a contact manager, a text editor, and spreadsheet program, a time tracker, and image manipulation tool, and an Acrobat file viewer. There are instructions for using them all. Red Hat Linux 6 also comes with the Apache Web Server software and instructions on how to use the Linux operating system as a server. The only thing the book did not cover was the system hardware requirements for installing Red Hat Linux 6 on your machine. However, a quick trip to the Red Hat Linux site will tell you all you need to know about what hardware is required for setting up this operating system. The book is easy to follow, accurate and very affordable to take the "squeamies" out of installing the operating system. If you plan on installing Linux on your machine, this book will make the job much easier. PeachPit PressEstimated Street Price |
