Ovation Studio Pro

Ovation Studio Pro is an awesome multimedia creation application. Some of the more recognizable applications created with Ovation Studio Pro include the Free Willy 2 and Babe Interactive MovieBooks, and the "Hey, Macaroni", Princess Diana, and Liverdance Screen Savers. Ovation Studio Pro uses a scripting language called Jive that is not too difficult to learn. If you are a beginner you'll need to do a little studying. An intermediate level programmer won't have too much trouble and an advanced level scriptor will be able to take a couple of quick looks and probably have it all handled easily. I don't want to discourage the beginner because Ovation Studio Pro is awesome and well worth a little effort to learn to gain the great benefits afforded by the application.

Click on the tabs on the screen shot below to see each tab in another window. These tabs are where you initially set your project up.

Once you have finished with the Project Properties you are presented with the following screen. The folders you see here are pretty self explanatory in that all the screens in your project are stored in the Screens folder, scripts can be accessed from the Script Library, and Font scripts from the Fonts folder. This tree was created automatically for me when I set up my project from the Project Properties screen above.

Here is the Jive editor where you will write your scripts.

 

 

You can create your own personalized cursors. They can be saved as CRX, CUR, or BMP files.

There is also a palette editor.

Below is the WaveX Configuration dialog. WaveX is a sound subsystem that is used to play .wav files. This is where you  would set up playback of your .wav files.

The Sequence Editor is for creating frame based animations with Windows bitmap files and .wav sound effects. Sequences created in the Sequence Editor are saved as text files with references to image and sound files.

Ovation Studio Pro is extremely easy to use, it's fairly easy to learn the language, and is very valuable in that is uses an extremely small space on your hard disk and valuable in  the small size of the engine used for distribution of your applications.

If you feel a little intimidated by all this, not to worry. Ovation Studio Pro comes package with a Tutorial and User Guide book that will take you one step at a time to show you some of the powerful capabilities this software is packed with. The book includes the Jive scripting language with clear and concise information on the language and how to use each part of it. The book also goes into general programming language rules including constants, variables, arrays, statements, and more.

You can pick up a free 30 day trial version at the Ovation Studio Pro site. You need to try this out. 30 days will be plenty of time to get your feet wet with Ovation Studio Pro, but it may take a little more time to master it. Once mastered, this is one powerful pice of software that will allow you to create professional quality applications.
