Organica Oh my, my, my my! Well, here is one of those programs that I fall in love with the minute I install it and open it. Organica is just about the most fun I've had with 3D software in a long time. Well, that is if you don't include Imagine, both created by Impulse Software. First of all, the user interface wouldn't be easier to use if you had the creator standing right next to you. Just about everything you need is represented on the user interface. There is no learning curve here to speak of. You see things pretty much as they happen.
The beginnings of my character above were created by simply picking shapes, choosing their colors, and placing them where I wanted. I've never seen anything like this. As I placed the shapes I was able to see the face above mold itself. No splines, cutting, pulling, pushing, just choosing and placing. Well, maybe a couple of subtractive objects, but those are as easy as checking a box on the objects property panel.
Ok, so I was having a little fun and decided to take my serious piece of work and play. I chose the barbell shaped object, sized it, and placed it where I wanted the mouth. I pulled up its property dialog box and set it to subtractive.
Take a look at what happened. This image is just screaming to be finished.

Ok, ok, so I couldn't resist. Here is my character bust finished. We are talking about 30-40 minutes from start to finish. Think what you could, the possibilities, if you took some time. He's a cute little "devil".
If you don't have Organica, you need to run over to Impulse, pick up the demo and try it out. You won't know the fun you've missed if you don't. Once you try it, I bet you'll be just like me, captivated, and I don't know how I got along without it.
